In an e-mail message addressed to Barnard College students on Thursday, Director of Career Development Robert Earl wrote that Rachel Tannebaum will join his office as a career counselor.

Earl announced the hire about one month after the class of 2009 graduated into a notoriously bleak job market.

“She has a passion and commitment to helping individual students identify their unique and fulfilling career paths,” Earl wrote. “We are confident that she will be a valuable addition to the Career Development staff.”

Tannebaum spent her undergraduate and graduate years at Rutgers University. She earned a bachelor's in communication and criminal justice from School of Communication, Information, and Library Studies at Rutgers in 2005. She continued her studies at the Graduate School of Education, where she earned a master of education degree in counseling psychology.

During her internship with Career Services at Rutgers, she counseled undergraduates and alumni and presented workshops, information sessions, and reviewed resumes and cover letters. She also worked as an assistant fitness coordinator at Rutgers.

Beyond the grounds of her alma mater, Tannebaum interned at Franklin Middle School in Somerset, N.J., where she provided academic and psychological support to students. She has also worked as an event coordinator at New Jersey’s Adult Day Center and as an assistant account executive for the public relations firm Cho HighWater Group.
